Phoenix UGM 2024: A Day of Innovation and Collaboration

On May 14, Philadelphia played host to the Phoenix UGM (user group meeting), part of Certainty 2024, Certara’s client summit. This event brought together a diverse group of pharmacokinetic (PK) scientists and clinical pharmacologists from various commercial organizations and academia. Attendees had the unique opportunity to engage with Certara experts, pharmaceutical industry leaders, and peers, and explore the latest innovations aimed at achieving greater certainty in drug development.

The morning session of the Phoenix UGM provided attendees with a comprehensive overview of the Phoenix pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics (PK/PD) modeling and simulation product suite. Participants learned about the upcoming enhancements in Phoenix 8.5, features in the roadmap, and exciting plans to build the new generation of Phoenix.

“I’m very excited about the upcoming automation with Phoenix in the cloud. My biggest takeaway is understanding our roadmap as we transition with Certara into this space.” – Phoenix UGM Attendee

The presentations also included compelling case studies demonstrating how customers are leveraging Phoenix products, with a standout customer presentation on the Certara Integral, data repository. Better connecting data from source to analysis environment remains a priority for our community. Fortunately, the new release of Integral features a REST API to automate that connection. Register for this upcoming webinar to learn more about the advantages of basing your PMX workflow on a compliant, cloud-hosted, API-enabled data repository.

Each presentation sparked lively discussions, particularly around Phoenix Hosted with many inquiries about its setup, licensing, and cloud performance.

In the afternoon, the event transitioned to interactive sessions, where small groups discussed topics such as Data Management, Managing Upgrade Processes, Reporting, and pharmacometric (PMX) Modeling. These sessions allowed attendees to share their challenges and best practices with a notable emphasis on reporting capabilities. The collective discussion that followed provided the Phoenix team with invaluable insights to help shape future product roadmaps.

UGM attendees meet in a small group with Keith Nieforth, senior director of product management.

“I’m here to learn about your updates, especially in Phoenix and any other software in clinical pharmacology. I also want to hear from the number of guests and speakers, updates from the FDA and regulatory agencies, and to build my network.” Sumit Bansal (Pictured above)

Participants then had the chance to engage in 1:1 meetings with Phoenix experts like Simon Davis, Chris Mehl, Keith Nieforth, and Bernd Wendt, to delve deeper into Phoenix-related queries. For those seeking more hands-on experience, a master class on creating Phoenix templates, led by Certara University experts Ana Henry and Tom Jones, offered detailed guidance on how to create reusable templates in Phoenix WinNonlin. Templates can save a lot of time in the day-to-day work of PK scientists, allowing them to focus more on their research. A special highlight: All participants in this free course received a certificate from Certara University, documenting the expansion of their Phoenix knowledge and professional growth.

The day concluded with a social event featuring great food and entertainment, providing a relaxed atmosphere for attendees to network with fellow Certara customers and experts. The Phoenix UGM 2024 was a day filled with learning, collaboration, and valuable feedback from the Phoenix community.

Thank you to everyone who made the Phoenix UGM 2024 a memorable and productive experience!

We are excited to announce that the Phoenix UGM is coming to Frankfurt, Germany, on October 23. This event promises a day packed with discussions, hands-on training, and opportunities to meet Phoenix experts. Stay tuned and sign up here to stay informed!
